ABSTRACT
An experience on the application of floating
foundation on soft soils for houses at Bac Ha dwelling project, Hanoi (pp. 3 - 7)
Dr. TRINH VIET CUONG, Eng. NGUYEN NGOC THUYET, MEng.
NGUYEN VAN DONG
Floating foundations have been applied for many
constructions in different countries. The principle of the method is placing a
structure having a load equivalent to the weight of the excavated soil. In this
condition, there are little changes in the state of the stress in the ground
and the settlement of the structure can be reduced although no improvement
methods are applied to the ground under foundation. In comparison with common
foundations, this foundation method is effective when the thickness of the soft
soil is high. The experience from application of floating foundation for houses
at BAC HA dwelling project showed that this foundation method allowed a save of
40¸50% of construction cost in comparison with pile
foundations.
Slope landslides on the transport roads in mountainous
area of Quang Binh province (pp.8-16)
MEng. NGUYEN DUC LY, Prof.
Dr. Sc. NGUYEN THANH
During the recent time, there occur the slope
landslide hazards on many roads in mountainous areas of Quang Binh, notably in
the flood season. The landslide occurrence has causes traffic jam and the
commodity circulation as well as destruction of plenty road sections and
transport works which in the end bring about great socio-economic losses.
This article introduces the most recent research results on the slope
landslides on the transport roads in mountainous areas of Quang Binh province.
A study on structural performance of keramzit concrete
floor under uniform load (pp.17-20)

LU, Dr. TRAN BA VIET
Using keramzit concrete in construction brings
economic and technical efficiency by creating huge reduction of the
construction's weight, reduction of thermal conductilvity, sound conductivity
and permeability for the structure [3][4][5]. However, keramzit concrete has
some features which are different compared to normal-weighted concrete so it's
necessary to study, test and evaluate the working of keramzit concrete under
pressure with specific functions. This article shows the experimential result
of the working of floor slabs made from keramzit concrete and normal-weight
concrete, under equally-distributed pressure, comparison of the strain and its
crack.
Key words: Keramzit concrete; Reinforced keramzit concrete slabs; Reinforced
normal-weight concrete slabs; Pulled strain; Pressured strain ; Deflection;
Crack.
The Dynamic Calculation of Elasto – Plastic Planar
Frames Considered Structural Initial Conditions due to Static Actions Caused
(pp.21-27)
MEng. NGUYEN VAN TU,
Prof. Dr. Sc. NGUYEN VAN
HOI
The paper presents methods and results on the
computation of elasto – plastic planar frames subjected to dynamic loads with
consideration of structural initial conditions due to static actions caused.
Elasto – plastic model of material was used that is bilinear elasto – plastic
model. In calculation model of structures, in addition to the above factors,
also has to consider of effect of axial load for limit plastic momen and
geometric nonlinearity of structures. Non-linear motional equation of
structures was established by finite element method and solved by Newmark
method combined with modified Newton
– Raphson method. Based on the obtained algorithms, the authors has programmed
computational program and researched the influence of the calculating
parameters for displacement – internal force state of structures.
A study on dipterocarpus alatus roxb oil mortar

Dipterocarpus Latex used in ancient building in
Vietnam as special ciment for long time in the past. Today there are rarely
scientific works on this special building material. Some reseach results about
Dipterocarpus latex grout are presented in this paper.
Preperation of Protective Coatings for Steel
Reinforced Concrete in Marine Environment (pp.34-39)
Dr. NGUYEN THI BICH THUY
To gain suitable composition of coatings for steel
reinforced concrete in marine environment, optimal content of additives such as
CaCO3 and SiO2 has been obtained by mechano-physical and
electrochemical methods. The therefrom formulated coatings based on epoxy (EP),
polyurethane (PU) and acrylic (AC) resins exhibit good physical,
mechano-physical and corrosion protection properties and meet all requirements
of coating specification in the Transportation Sector.
Estimation of soil’s cosolidation by settlement
monitoring with surveying method (pp.40-43)
Dr. NGO VAN HOI
A number of methods can be used to verify the soil’s consolidation in the
process of soil improvement, among them the surveying method is considered as
the most simple and effective. This paper presents the procedure of settlement
monitoring for verification of effectiveness of soil improvement by determining
the consolidation of soil to be improved. The procedure has been illustrated by
the result of insitu monitoring carried - out by IBST in 2004 at the Chua Ve
Container Terminal, Hai Phong Port Rehabilitation Project.
Construction software transfer calculation GPS
coordinates coordinate systemflat on works (pp.44-48)
Eng.
NGO XUAN THE,
MEng. LE VAN HUNG, Eng.
NGUYEN XUAN HOA
Nowadays in Construction surveying, GPS technology is
being widely used, particularly for setting up the co-ordinate and altitude
control network for construction.. However, because GPS measurements are space
values and the ground surface of the surveyed ladn area does not comply with
any matematical rule, there has been always a difference of distance between
measuring values given by GPS and that given by the total station.. Therefore,
to resolve this problem, the transformation of GPS co-ordinate system to
the co-ordinate system of the building in order to homogenize the measuring
values given by GPS and that given by the total station must be caried out. In
this paper, the author presents the way for transforming the co-ordinate system
mentioned above..

This paper presents important steps to investigate and
analyze a real collapse of the basement construction in Vietnam. Some
useful lessons and solutions for the bottom-up method of construction for the
basement are drawn from this collapse.
